The Russian private military company (PMC) Wagner has started recruiting political prisoners from the Chechen Republic, the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s DefenseMinistry reported on the Telegram messenger on Jan. 5.

In particular, the Wagner Group are recruiting prisoners from convict settlement No. 3 in the town of Argun, as well as from penal colony No. 2 in the village of Chernokozovo, the HUR said.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, over 50 prisoners have been “mobilized” from both colonies. Most of the prisoners were convicted on trumped-up charges.

“The phenomenon is beginning to take place en masse,” the HUR said.

“The work is underway with the employees of the colonies to prevent the leakage of information.”

As reported earlier, drone footage has been circulating on social media of the bodies of invaders piled on top of each other in several rows amid colossal losses among Russian mercenaries, in particular near the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast.

The Kremlin regime pays little attention to losses among the Wagner mercenaries, as their units consist mainly of recruited Russian prisoners.
