Russian occupation authorities in Kherson have ramped up their “filtration” of Ukrainian citizens in recent weeks, Deputy Head of Kherson Regional Council Yurii Sobolevskyi told Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform on Aug. 21.

“The number of Ukrainian citizens abducted by the Russian invaders has increased dramatically,” said Sobolevskyi.

“Local volunteers and chairs of Homeowner Associations who refuse to cooperate with the invaders are particularly at risk.”

Sobolevskyi added that entire families are detained in order to coerce one member to collaborate.

The official urged Kherson teachers to leave the oblast, as they remain unable to work under Russian occupation.
