Russia will cut itself off from peace talks if it organizes a show trial of captured Mariupol defenders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his regular evening address on Aug. 21.

According to Zelenskyy, no matter what the invaders are thinking, no matter what they are planning, the reaction of Ukraine will be absolutely clear.

“If this despicable show trial takes place, if our people are brought onto this stage in violation of all agreements, all international rules, if there is abuse... This will be a line beyond which any negotiations are impossible,” he said.

“Russia will cut itself off from negotiations. There will be no more conversations. Our state has said everything.”

As reported by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Russian occupation authorities are planning to hold sham trials of Ukrainian Mariupol defenders on Aug. 24.
