Russia has used about 660 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones and will soon receive a new batch of these vehicles, Vadym Skibitsky, a representative of the Defense Intelligence said on Feb. 6.
"Russia really has problems with its arsenal, including drones," a message on the website of the agency reads, quoting Skibitsky.
“To date, they have used approximately 660 Shahed drones. The contract provides for 1,750 units. It also takes time to deliver and prepare them. They have used a large number in recent days, and these stocks need to be replenished. According to our information, they will now have another batch of delivery — we will specify the number of UAVs.”
Skibitsky clarified that Iranian drones were usually imported to Russia in batches of 250-300 units.
He said that the Russians use different altitudes and different routes to bypass Ukraine's air defenses, and also change the areas where they launch drones.
"A massive swarm of drones is aimed at breaking through the Ukrainian air defense system and hitting targets," Skibitsky explained.
“If you launch a small number of UAVs — 5-10 drones at a time — this effect will not be achieved.”
