Russia will try to annex the occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson Oblasts by mid-May U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE Michael Carpenter has said, citing U.S. intelligence, CNN reported on May 2.

According to Carpenter, the U.S. has “highly credible” intelligence information that Russia will attempt to annex the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts “sometime in mid-May” and that there are plans to establish a similar sham “people's republic” in Kherson Oblast and also occupy it.

“Reports indicate that Russia is planning to hold referenda upon joining Russia sometime in mid-May, and that Moscow is considering a similar plan for Kherson,” Carpenter said.
