The invading Russian forces are concentrating their efforts on attempting to seize Slovyansk and Kramatorsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk oblast, the UK Ministry of Defense said in their daily intelligence assessment update on Twitter on May 13.
According to the report, Moscow’s primary objective is to “envelop” Ukrainian troops in the Joint Forces Operation area, cutting off their supply and reinforcement lines.
At the same time, the Ukrainian military has successfully thwarted a Russian attempt to cross the Siverskyi Donets River, destroying a large portion of armor pontoon bridging equipment belonging to at least one Russian BTG.
“Conducting river crossings in a contested environment is a highly risky maneuver and speaks to the pressure the Russian commanders are under to make progress in their operations in eastern Ukraine,” the ministry’s assessment reads.
So far, the Kremlin is failing to “make any significant advances” in the region after redeploying their units from Kyiv and Chernihiv regions to Don-bas.
