Invading Russian forces will not be able to hold sham referendums in the temporarily occupied territories, Luhansk Regional Governor Serhiy Hayday told Ukrainian national television on Aug. 28.

Hayday noted the invaders constantly try to tie events to “historical” dates.

“Therefore, everything they previously announced for May 9, ‘three days to seize Kyiv,’ now Sept. 11 – I assure you, none of their plans will come true,” the governor said.

“Our military will destroy all this. And everything they (the Russians) plan, they will find 150 million or so reasons to postpone their plans as far into the future as possible.”

U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on Aug. 26 that the Russian occupation authorities are unlikely to be able to carry out fake referendums as they intend (with cooperation from local collaborators) by the purported Sept. 11 deadline, due to continued frictions within occupation administrations and ongoing partisan attacks.
