Finland investigates suspected airspace violation by Russian aircraft

A Russian aircraft violated Finnish airspace over the western Gulf of Finland, Finland's Defense Ministry said on Aug. 20.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said authorities take every such incident seriously and that an investigation has already been launched.
The Defense Ministry did not specify what type of aircraft allegedly entered Finnish airspace.
Border authorities are investigating the details and circumstances of the suspected airspace violation. More information is expected to be released later.
This is not the first time Finland’s Defense Ministry has suspected a Russian aircraft of violating the country’s airspace.
On May 27, a Russian aircraft was suspected of entering Finnish airspace while apparently trying to avoid a thunderstorm over the Gulf of Finland near Porkkala. The incident prompted the Finnish Air Force to scramble aircraft.
