The main efforts of the Russian invading forces in the Pivdennyi Buh axis on the southern warfront are focused on holding the occupied positions, preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops and attacking Ukrainian positions, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on Aug. 17.

According to the Ukrainian military, the invaders attempted an assault near the village of Bilohirka by launching air strikes and attacking with infantry.

“Ukrainian soldiers kindly thinned out the ranks of the Russian invaders and made the enemy flee,” the General Staff’s report reads.

The General Staff said that Russian troops continue to conduct aerial reconnaissance, as well as taking measures to replenish their losses.
