A total of 867 high-rise buildings and 1,035 private houses have partially been damaged as a result of Russian attacks on the city of Mykolaiv, the local mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, said in an interview with NV on Nov. 18.
“They bomb us almost every day,” he said. “In total, 867 high-rise buildings and 1,035 private houses were partially damaged, 70 of them will have to be demolished.”
According to Sienkevych, 78 educational institutions, including schools and kindergartens, have also been damaged as a result of shelling.
“It’s hard to estimate the damage right now as we don’t know how much it will cost to repair them later (if they are damaged again), but the losses are huge,” he said.
Earlier the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the threat of Russian attacks on Mykolaiv remains even after the liberation of the right bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast, due to the geographical features of the region.
Russian troops launched a missile strike at a five-story residential building in Mykolaiv overnight on Nov. 11, killing seven people.
On Nov. 4, Sienkevych said that Russia had not shelled Mykolayiv for only 44 days out of 255 since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the country.
