Russian artillery has attacked an evacuation coordination center of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Slovyansk, DonetskOblast, the head of ICRC’s rapid response team in Ukraine, Taras Logginov, said in a Facebook post on Aug. 29.
According to Logginov, the attack was carried out with 152mm barreled artillery.
“The building is destroyed, three cars are damaged; miraculously, none of our volunteers were injured,” said Logginov.
ICRS was renting the premises until Sep. 1, using it to coordinate evacuation of civilians from the combat zone, and to distribute humanitarian aid to local residents.
“This location is marked as an ICRC residence on every map; the Russian command was aware of this,” Logginov added.
“Our base and its surroundings didn’t house any military targets whatsoever. Still, four shells have exploded at our base.”
