Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has said that Moscow’s troops in eastern Ukraine can be expected to capture the entire Luhansk oblast soon, Russian propaganda agency TASS claimed via Telegram on May 20.

Shoigu also announced that Russia will create 12 new military regiments in its Western Military District, in response to Sweden’s and Finland’s accession to NATO.

According to head of Luhansk regional administration Serhiy Haidai, Shoigu’s proclamations are “nonsense,” and Ukraine’s army will soon launch counteroffensives to liberate its lands from Russian occupation.

“What (he) said today is nonsense, aimed to deceive the Russian populace and prevent them from discovering that they are losing (this war),” said Haidai.

“The alleged ‘second army in the world’ is struggling to fuel its decrepit Soviet vehicles in cold storage.”

Haidai “thanked” Shoigu for embezzling funds from Russia’s defense budget to purchase a luxurious personal yacht.

Ukraine controls only around 10% of Luhansk oblast, as its forces continue to stall and repel Russian offensives.
