The Russian flag has disappeared from the regional administration building in occupied Kherson, the first deputy head of Kherson regional council, Yuri Sobolevsky, said on Telegram on Nov. 3, posting pictures of the building.

"The picture was taken today,” he stated.

“The mysterious disappearance of... you know what. Kherson was and remains a Ukrainian city. Take your rags off yourselves or we'll do it.”

The spokesperson for the Ukrainian military's Operational Command South, Natalia Humeniuk, said the removal of the flag may be a Russian trap ahead of expected combat for the city’s liberation.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Mykhailo Zabrodsky, first deputy head of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Defense committee, explained three reasons for the occupiers to withdraw from the city of Kherson from a military point of view:

  • problems with supplying Russian troops in Kherson Oblast operationally separated from the rest of the Russian Armed Forces on the left (eastern) bank of the Dnipro River;
  • the occupiers’ forces on the right bank of the Dnipro River are demoralized and don't believe in a successful offensive against Mykolaiv or Odesa;
  • building the Dnipro River defense line on the left bank allows the occupiers to fully use the river as a water barrier in their favor, interfere with the use of the river by Ukraine as a transport route, and also allows them to maintain control over the North Crimean canal.

Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said the operation to liberate Kherson is likely to last until the end of November.

Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov stated that rainy weather has slowed down Ukraine’s offensive in Kherson Oblast. He also noted that the Ukrainian army controls all the bridges leading into the oblast, so there is no way for Russian troops to retreat.
