Russian forces continue attempts to advance from Izyum towards Slovyansk, the U.S. conflict think-tank the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in its June 12 assessment of the ongoing full-scale Russian invasion.
According to the Institute, Russian invaders have advanced southeast of the city of Izyum, but have made little progress past it.
In Kharkiv Oblast, the invaders are trying to push the Ukrainian military back from the frontlines by shelling positions near Kharkiv.
The offensive also continues in Severodonetsk, where the bridges leading to the city were blown up by Russian forces to cut off Ukrainian ground communication lines from Bakhmut to Lysychansk and Severodonetsk.
Russian forces are focused on fortifying their defenses in the southern direction.
On June 12, an analysis by ISW noted that Russian military commanders are expanding their plans to wage a longer war against Ukraine, although their manpower and reserves remain under par for such an operation.
