The Russian military is actively preparing for defensive operations in Crimea, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksiy Hromov, said in an interview on July 5.

"The construction of fortifications in the north of the peninsula is almost completed, and an airborne defense system is being created on the northwestern and western coasts of Crimea to prevent possible landings by the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Hromov said.

However, Hromov added that there is currently no verified data on the evacuation of families of the Russian military personnel from the peninsula."

At the same time, we should expect a significant increase in the number of people trying to leave Crimea in case of the threat of destruction of the Crimean bridge, and or the approach of the Ukrainian military to the Perekop and Chonhar isthmuses," Hromov said.
