Russian invaders continuing offensive to lay siege to Kyiv, says Ukraine’s General Staff
Invading Russian troops are trying to continue their offensive in order to lay siege to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Ukraine’s General Staff wrote on Facebook on March 2.
“In the Podilsk direction, the enemy is trying to continue the offensive along the border of Horenychi, Hostomel, Demydiv in the direction of Kyiv in order to surround the capital from the northern and north-western directions,” reads the report.
The General Staff also reported that up to three battalion tactical group (BTGs) from the 5th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Army’s Eastern Military District were located in Zhytomyr Oblast.
“In the northern direction, up to seventeen BTGs of the occupying forces continue offensive operations to block Kyiv from the northeast, despite the loss of manpower and equipment,” the General Staff wrote.
“The invaders were stopped in the areas of Kozelets, Bobrovytsia, and Makiyivka. In the other direction, in the areas of the settlements of Svitylnia, Peremoha and Hostroluchchia, the enemy troops lost their offensive potential.”
