Invading Russian forces are demolishing historical buildings in the occupied city of Mariupol, the city’s mayoral advisor Petro Andriushchenko said in a Telegram messenger post on Nov. 30.

“The invaders are putting an end to the historical center of Mariupol,” he said.

According to Andriushchenko, the Russian invasion forces are destroying one-story private houses.

“There are so-called ‘merchant houses’ among these buildings that preserve the true history of Mariupol,” the advisor said.

The official added the local authorities last year restored the doors in these houses, “giving new life not only to the doors, but to the whole quarter.”

As reported earlier, the Russians plan to demolish almost the entire old part of Mariupol’s Livoberezhnyi district outside the Azovstal Steelworks.
