In their search for guerillas, Russian invaders in occupied Melitopol are capturing people and intimidating them, the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov said on Ukrainian national television.

He said the invading Russian troops had not expected resistance, and the guerilla movement in the city is interfering with their plans.

“The invaders are discouraged,” said Fedorov.

“When they came in three months ago, they expected support among the population and government officials. Today, there is a lot of resistance activity. This completely destabilizes the control system of the ruscists (Russian fascists) and collaborators,”.

He said that more than 90% of Melitopol residents are members of the guerilla movement, since they support Ukraine and the liberation of Melitopol.

In particular, the guerillas distribute motivational leaflets to undermine the occupying authorities.

The invaders even resort to taking civilians prisoner in order to establish the names of the guerillas, but they have been unable to find anyone, saidFedorov.

“They cannot find or work out who the guerillas are,” he said.

“The only thing they have success in is intimidating everyone, taking them to jail, but they cannot find those who are resisting. And they are impossible to locate, because 90% of the inhabitants of our city (are resisting)."
