After establishing control over the north-eastern part of Kharkiv Oblast in eastern Ukraine, Russian invaders are now focused on defending the territory they control from advances by Ukrainian troops in that region, Ukraine’s General Staff said in an update on June 21.
Russia’s invasion forces are also trying to stop the Ukrainian army from strengthening their positions near the city of Slovyansk in neighboring Donetsk Oblast, with the enemy bringing in more troops to that area.
Russian artillery is still active in Kharkiv Oblast – a new round of shelling targeted civil infrastructure in Dmytrivka, Chuguyiv, Korobochkyne, Stara Gnylytsya and Bazaliyivka.
Oleg Synegubov, head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, on June 20 said the city was making defensive preparations. According to him, Ukrainian military units stationed near Kharkiv are getting ready for another Russian attempt to attack the city.
Earlier, a Ukrainian operation in Kharkiv Oblast successfully destroyed the command and intelligence center of Russia’s 20th army stationed in the region. It was providing tactical guidance for Russian operations in eastern Ukraine, collecting intelligence data.
In Kharkiv, the Ukrainian army has one of the most capable units, which has been successful in a number of offensive operations throughout the war – the Holodny Yar mechanized brigade, responsible for destroying a number of Russian Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters.
