Invading Russian forces have robbed the apartment of Kateryna Handziuk, a Kherson activist who died after surviving an acid attack on July 31, 2018, her father Viktor Handziuk told the Hromadske media outlet on March 24.

He said that the invaders had carried several large bags out of the apartment.

Handziuk's father added that about 12 Russian soldiers had broken into the apartment, accompanied by a local resident. They stayed in the apartment for about two-three hours, not letting anyone in.

He said that the Russian invaders had staged full-scale robbery of the apartment, taking away many things. At the same time, the Russians said that they were doing this "in the name of the Russian Federation."

At the same time, the man mentioned that some people had called him from Kateryna's phone number a few days before that, but were silent on the phone.

The Watchers media project reported, referencing Handziuk’s family friends, that the Russian troops had explaining their actions by claiming they were preventing "threats to Russian statehood,” though they did not elaborate on how the activist, who died over three years ago, posed such a threat.

Kateryna Handziuk, 33, was Kherson activist, a mayoral advisor, acting manager of affairs on the Kherson City Council's executive committee, initially survived an acid attack against her on July 31, 2018,. She suffered burns to more than 35% of her body and underwent 11 operations in the capital city of Kyiv.

She died of complications resulting from the attack on Nov. 4, 2018. The immediate cause of death was a severe blood clot.

In a subsequent criminal investigation, the chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, Vladyslav Manger, as well as Oleksiy Levin, an aide to a member of the same council, were fingered as organizers of the crime.

Another defendant in the case, former MP aide Ihor Pavlovsky, signed a deal with an investigation, vowing to testify against masterminds behind the murder.

The perpetrators of the crime have already been sentenced to six-and-a-half, three, and four years in prison respectively.
