Russian invaders suffer heavy losses as they try to seize Mariupol
Invading Russian forces have tried to seize the port city of Mariupol, but their attacks were successfully repulsed by the Ukrainian military, Ukraine's General Staff wrote on Facebook on March 15.
"The total losses of the enemy amounted to about 150 people, two tanks, seven infantry fighting vehicles, and one armored personnel carrier," reads the report.
The General Staff added that the invaders had stopped their offensive and retreated after suffering losses.
Mariupol has been completely blocked and under continuous shelling by Russian troops for more than 10 days. Russian attacks have already destroyed a children's hospital, a maternity ward, and a technical university.
The invaders are also refusing to organize regular humanitarian corridors for the delivery of foodstuffs and the evacuation of the civilian population.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called the situation in Mariupol "an act of genocide,” and the Red Cross has warned of a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the city.
