Invading Russian forces are threatening to hold public executions in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya Oblast, Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov told the Ukraine 24 television channel on June 21.

"Resistance is only growing, and peaceful protests are growing, and the underground resistance is growing," he said.

"That is why they want to move to the next stage – to execution."

According to Fedorov, the invaders want to do it publicly to intimidate Ukrainians.

"It is absolutely obvious to me why they are doing this," the mayor said.
