A major producer of tires for the Russian military, Altay Tire Factory (ASHK) in Russia’s Barnaul, Siberia, has caught fire, the press service of Russia’s Prosecutor's Office reported on Dec. 9.
The enterprise produces tires for military aircraft and vehicles.
The fire broke on the morning of Dec. 9, around 05:00. a.m. By 10:00 a.m., firefighters said that they had contained the fire, on an area of 1,000 square meters, noting that their work is made more difficult by low temperatures and heavy smoke.
Initially, a fire broke out in one of the shops of the tire plant. But when firefighters arrived at the scene, the fire had already engulfed a four-story building and continued to spread further.
110 people and 33 pieces of equipment were involved in attempting to get the blaze under control.
Three people were rescued from the plant; they were not injured. No casualties have been reported.
The local prosecutor's office is already conducting an investigation and trying to establish the cause of the fire.
