The Russian State Duma has introduced a bill to impose mandatory fees on patrons of restaurants, clubs, and bars to support Moscow’s war in Ukraine, Radio Liberty reported on May 17.

The initiators of the draft law propose to set a fee of 1% of the bill for adult patrons of the establishments.

Reportedly, legal entities or entrepreneurs who own the establishments will be responsible for collecting the funds and transferring them to the budget. Russian parliamentarians believe that these fees will not draw a negative reaction from patrons.

The funds will be used by the Defenders of the Fatherland foundation, headed by the wife of the governor of Kemerovo Oblast, Anna Tsivilieva – reportedly the niece of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
