In Russia’s Belgorod region, which serves as staging grounds for Moscow’s invasion force, a sharp uptick in instances of rape has been recorded in recent months, according to an audio intercept published by the Security Service of Ukraine via a Telegram post on May 28.
“Our prosecutor’s office has so many reports of rape…; across (the settlements of) Valuiki, Urazovo, Veydelivka,” says a Russian woman who works in law enforcement in the recording.
According to her, the surge in rape reports corresponds with a rotation of troops from far-flung Russian reaches.
“My mom says they have visitors from Vladivostok, Khanty-Mansiysk, Khakasia…,” the woman added.
She then can be heard recounting a story of a local woman who ended up being raped by 15 Russian soldiers.
Russian war against Ukraine goes into its fourth month.
