Russian shelling kills two in Nikopol, local gymnasium destroyed
Two staff members were killed in yet another case of Russian shelling of a civilian target – this time destroying a gymnasium in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko wrote on Telegram on Oct. 11.
The victims were two men, aged 24 and 71, the regional military administration’s head Serhiy Lysak later clarified, saying that the gymnasium suffered significant damage.
There is a possibility that other people remain trapped under the rubble. Forty-two private houses, 18 outbuildings, one infrastructure object, 17 solar panels, one shop and a car were also damaged in the attack. Emergency services are on the scene continuing search and rescue efforts.
18:10 Update: The General Prosecutor Office has announced a criminal case for violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code) in connection with the shelling of Nikopol. Two people were killed and two other residents were injured, law enforcement agencies reported. The rescue and search operation is ongoing.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has been consistently targeted by the Russians. A 78-year-old woman was injured, administrative buildings, a dormitory, and residential buildings were damaged in the latest night attack on Nikopol, Marhanets and Myriyvka communities early Oct. 11, the regional military administration reported.
The Nikopol gymnasium was also shelled on Oct. 10, but no civilian casualties were reported.
