Three monks killed by Russian shelling of Sviatohirsk Lavra in Donbas

Three monks have been killed as a result of Russian shelling against the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra, a monastery in Donetsk Oblast on the banks of the Siversky Donets River, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church said in a press release on June 1.

"On May 30, during hostilities, the 3rd and 4th monastic pavilions of the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra were damaged,” the UOC reported.

“Archimandrite Galaktion, monk Aristoklius, and nun Barbara were killed in the shelling. Hieromonks Joasai and Amphilochius were wounded, as was Hierodeacon Alypius.”

The total number of dead and injured lay people, sheltering in the monastary, is currently unknown.
