Invading Russian troops shelled a residential neighborhood in Kherson, killing one and injuring another, regional governor Yaroslav Yanushevych reported on Telegram on Jan. 9.

He added that doctors are currently attempting to save the life of one of the victims, a woman who received a perforating wound from debris.

Additionally, the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office reported that the victim who was killed was a man passing by a supermarket near the impact location of a shell.

Preliminary reports state the attack occurred at 12:55 p.m.

Ukrainian authorities have begun investigating the attack as a war crime, and pre-meditated murder.

Meanwhile, the Russian Army has constantly attacked Kherson and the oblast.

As a result of Russian attacks, the city of Kherson was left without power on New Year's Eve. One person was killed and another one injured in an overnight attack on Dec. 31.

Pediatric hospital facilities were damaged in Kherson, about 700 windows were scattered across the hospital by seven strikes.

A fire station in Kherson was hit in the Russian strike of Jan. 5. Earlier that day, an attack on residential buildings of Kherson was reported. An 18-year-old boy was killed in the attack.

The next day the occupiers hit the fire station once again – in violation of a self-proclaimed “Orthodox Christmas ceasefire”, announced by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. One firefighter was killed, while other individuals were injured.

Overnight on Jan. 9, Russia shelled critical infrastructure in Kherson, destroying an electric substation.
