Columns of Russian troops and armor were spotted near Mariupol, apparently en route towards Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Mariupol mayoral adviser Petro Andriushchenko said in a Telegram post on Dec. 16.
“The military situation in Mariupol and its surroundings: the movement (of enemy equipment) has again been intensified towards Berdyansk and Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia Oblast),” said Andriushchenko.
“Armored personnel carriers, howitzers, artillery, trucks with personnel with guns towed behind. All these are moving towards Zaporizhzhia Oblast.”
He added that Russian forces are bringing prefabricated concrete defensive structure to reinforce their positions near Mariupol.
In Mangush settlement near Mariupol, Russian air defense was strengthened with a Buk AA missile launcher.
“The convoys are going with a large number of Russian guards and/or the commandant's office's security,” Andriushchenko wrote.
