Russian troops near Sumy desert positions, Ukraine’s General Staff says
Some invading Russian troops around the town of Okhtyrka in Sumy Oblast have mutinied against their commanders and fled the battlefield, Ukraine’s General Staff said on March 22.
According to the General Staff, some Russian troops around Okhtyrka had displayed signs of insubordination and dereliction of duty.
Specifically, around 300 troops in charge of 70 military vehicles refused their combat orders and fled the conflict area instead, the General Staff said.
There have been numerous reports of desertion by Russian troops during the almost four-week-long invasion of Ukraine by Moscow’s forces.
Some Russian equipment has been abandoned because it was out of fuel, but Ukrainian forces have also recovered fueled and fully operational Russian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles that appeared to have simply been abandoned by their Russian owners.
