The city of Severodonetsk in Luhansk Oblast remains hotly contested, withRussian artillery bombarding residential areas and the Azot chemical plant, the head of the regional administration, Serhiy Hayday, said in a Telegram post on June 14.

“Once again, precise (Russian) artillery fire hits Azot (chemical plant) and a glassware factory in Severodonetsk, a bridge (across the Siverskii Donets River) was destroyed, nearby settlements Synetskyi and Pavlohradwere shelled,” said Hayday.

Preliminary casualty figures suggest mounting civilian fatalities. Intense, persistent shelling prevents more accurate casualty reports from coming in, according to Hayday.

Many residential high-rises in the city are damaged. Some buildings are ruined beyond repair.

“Russians are attempting to encircle our forces near Lysychansk, Pryvillia, Severodonetsk, and Borivske,” the official added.

By June 13, all three bridges connecting Severodonetsk to the rest of Ukraine have been destroyed. Russia controls 70%-80% of the city, with its residents struggling to survive in dire conditions.
