Invading Russian forces are trying to advance from the town of Lysychansk in Luhansk Oblast toward the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, Luhansk Governor Serhiy Hayday said in a video posted on Facebook on July 18.

According to Hayday, the way to Bakhmut town runs through a small chunk of Luhansk Oblast that is still under the control of Ukrainian forces.

”The invaders are firing rockets, using aircraft to break through our defenses," the governor said.

“Just yesterday alone, the settlements on the border of Luhansk Oblast and the Donbas withstood five air strikes. Unfortunately, everyone there is already used to artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. Thirteen such attacks were recorded on July 17. The Russians tried to advance toward Verkhniokamianka, but suffered losses and retreated."
