Invading Russian forces failed to cut off the route to the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, after an attack in that direction was repelled, reported Donetsk Regional Military Civil Administration governor Pavlo Kyrylenko on Ukrainian TV on May 20. This failure means that the Russians have not managed to cut off the area from Ukrainian reinforcements.

Kyrylenko also reported that, Avdiivka, Ocheretyno, Marinka, Krasnohorivka and Toretsk are under currently under fire while Bakhmut itself was hit by six missiles, bombs and air strikes.

“One of the settlements from which (the Russians) were moving was also liberated,” he said.

“Therefore, heavy fighting continues, it is very difficult. People need to be evacuated to make it easier for us to liberate our territory.”
