Russians forces in southern Ukraine have shifted entirely into a defensive posture, attempting to use shelling and air strikes to disrupt Ukrainian plans for a counter-offensive, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on Aug. 9.

To that end, enemy artillery shelled Ukrainian positions across 14 settlements in the region, the General Staff said.

Bila Krynytsia, Andriivka, Oskorivka, and Olhine were targeted by Russian air strikes.

At least two Russian ships, carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, remain on station in the Black Sea.

Ukrainian air defenses reported that they had shot down four Russian cruise missiles fired from Russian submarines in the Black Sea.

None of the missiles hit their targets, but two people were injured and housing was damaged when debris from one of the missiles fell to the ground over Uman, a city in Cherkassy Oblast in central Ukraine.
