Russian occupation forces may stage provocations in the center of the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol in the south of Ukraine, during Melitopol’s celebration of the end of Nazi occupation on Oct. 23, Melitopol mayor Ivan Federal warned on Ukrainian national television.
“On this day every year we honor our World War II veterans, but today the Russian invaders are attempting to instigate provocations in the city.”
According to him, the occupiers were to assemble a crowd at 4 p.m. on the city’s central square and stage a false flag attack, then shift the blame onto resistance fighters or the Ukrainian Army.
Fedorov stressed that civilians’ safety is a priority for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and “no-one is going to expose them to danger.”
The mayor recommended locals avoid crowded places, the Russian military or their vehicles, and strongly advised against participating in any illegal activities perpetrated by the occupying forces.
