Retreating in Kherson Oblast, Russian troops left explosives in hospitals, schools, and private apartments, the head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Ukrainian military’s southern command, Natalia Humeniuk, said on Ukrainian national television on Nov. 13.
She said that the Russian military had mined not only roads, but also public areas and places used for social purposes.
"(These include) the hospitals and educational institutions where they were based," Humeniuk said.
“Also a lot of private premises, including apartments in the provincial center, may be mined. A lot of communications, and critical infrastructure facilities.”
She said that this would mean that demining the area could take a significant amount of time.
"We appeal to all local residents to be aware of this danger and in no case approach unknown or suspicious objects. Immediately inform specialists about it," Humeniuk said.
