Russian invasion forces in the occupied territories plan to deport Ukrainian children to Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Crimea and Russia, the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, reported on his Telegram channel on Oct. 14.
“The Gauleiters (occupation governors) of Melitopol and other temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts are going to take our children to the Crimea and Russia,” Fedorov wrote on Telegram.
“So, the Kherson henchmen of Russia have already officially asked their Kremlin authorities to organize the departure and further education of (Ukrainian) children in Russian schools.”
Fedorov added that in Ukraine’s Crimea itself, the Gauleiters want to close local schools because of the supposed constant reports of the bomb threats in educational institutions.
“What fate awaits our children is unknown,” Fedorov said. “I can say one thing for sure – the rashists (Russian fascists) are used to hiding behind them as a human shield and using them for their propaganda.”
Fedorov urged parents to protect their children and leave the occupied territories.
Earlier, the General Staff reported that since the beginning of October, the Russians had abducted about 170 children from the city of Kherson.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Oct. 6 that the invaders had forcibly deported more than 1.6 million Ukrainians, who are now “scattered” across Russia and its remote regions.
At the end of August, Russia announced the “adoption” of thousands of children deported from Mariupol.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that the aggressor country was violating the GenevaConventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and must return the children to their parents.
