Russians ‘shoot dead Ukrainian conductor’ in Kherson Oblast

Invading Russian forces shot dead the conductor of the Kherson Philharmonic, Yuriy Kerpatenko, for refusing to cooperate with the occupation authorities, journalist Olena Vanina wrote on Facebook on Oct. 14.

“Reports from Kherson... ‘Today it became known that the conductor of the Kherson Philharmonic Hall was shot dead by the invaders,’” she said.

“‘He refused to work with them, they said we would come to you again. They came to his house and shot him dead right there. It’s difficult to find out more details since everyone is afraid in Kherson, but the information is100%. I don’t know, I would like all of Ukraine to know about it. He was a very talented conductor, and especially an arranger.’”

According to Vanina, colleagues write that they had lost contact with Kerpatenko was lost back in September.

Kerpatenko was a Ukrainian conductor, accordionist. He was the chief conductor of the Hilea chamber orchestra.

Kerpatenko had worked as the conductor of the Kherson Philharmonic Hallsince 2000. In 2004, he became the chief conductor of the Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after Mykola Kulish.
