Invading Russian forces attacked Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with various types of weapons overnight on Oct. 14, including Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, head of the oblast’s military administration Valentyn Reznichenko said in a Telegram messenger post.
According to the governor, the Russian invaders attacked Nikopol district with Grad multiple launch rocket systems, heavy artillery and drones. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties as a result of the attack.
Reznichenko said the Ukrainian Air Force had managed to shoot down four kamikaze drones over the Dnipro and Nikopol districts.
Meanwhile, the Russian army shelled the Mezhova territorial community in Synelnykove district, resulting in damage to an industrial enterprise and residential buildings. In addition, a 51-year-old man was hospitalized with injuries.
Private houses, water pipes and power lines were damaged in the Myrivske, Chervonohryhorivka and Pervomaiske territorial communities as a result of the shelling.
The use of Iranian drones was first reported on Sept. 13, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a Shahed-136 UAV in Kupyansk, Kharkiv Oblast.
The aggressor has been using these aircraft more and more often in recent weeks. It is known the Russian army has rebranded them as Geran-2 drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his video address to the G7 summit on Oct. 11 that according to Ukrainian military intelligence, Moscow had ordered another 2,400 Iranian Shahed-136 loitering munition UAVs.
In addition, according to the regional department of the Zakhid (West) Territorial Defense Forces, at least 20 Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones are believed to have been delivered to the Luninets airfield in Belarus.
