A Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group tried to cross the Ukrainian border in Sumy Oblast early on Jan. 21, regional governor Dmytro Zhyvytskyi reported on Telegram.

At about 5:00 a.m., a group of six Russian soldiers headed from Russia into the direction of the border settlement of Yunakivka, but turned back after drawing fire from Ukrainian defenders.

This was not the first Russian attempt to infiltrate Ukraine via the border in Sumy Oblast, the governor noted. Local Territorial Defence Forces found and eliminated another enemy sabotage group near the settlement of Vysoke in Sumy Oblast on Dec. 23.
