An agent for Russian military intelligence was caught in the course of counter-subversive measures in the front-line areas of the Donbas, Ukraine’s SBU security service said in a report on Jan. 31.
The suspect turned out to be a member of the local council of the city of Siver from the outlawed pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life (OPZZh) party.
Since October 2022, he had been gathering intelligence for the enemy regarding the deployment of units of the Defense Forces on the territory of Bakhmut district.
Furthermore, the perpetrator transmitted to the Russians the coordinates of local critical infrastructure facilities, including energy-generating enterprises, which the Russian Armed Forces used in high-precision missile strikes.
“After enemy shelling, the agent went to the area to record the consequences and prepare a report for the next wave of strikes,” the SBU report said.

“SBU agents detained the traitor while trying to pass classified information to the aggressor,” it went on

The suspect has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
