Some countries are prepared to provide Western
aircraft to Ukraine as part of an international coalition, Ukrainian
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on May 16.
Commenting on the results of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visits to Italy, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, Kuleba noted that several countries have expressed their readiness to train Ukrainian pilots.
He then added that there are countries ready to provide aircraft to defend Ukraine, acting as part of a broader coalition.
“The aviation coalition will definitely be formed this year; I have no doubts about that now,” said Kuleba.
“When Western planes with our pilots would actually patrol Ukrainian airspace – that is still an open question. But when the coalition is formed, everything will happen very quickly,” Kuleba added.
During his May 16 evening address, Zelenskyy confirmed that the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have agreed to work on a “fighter jet coalition” for Ukraine.
According to The Guardian, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his Dutch counterpart, Mark Rutte, agreed to create an "international coalition" to help transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
