The situation in Severodonetsk is fluid and unclear, says U.S. conflict think-tank the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their latest report on June 6.

Nominal control of the city often changes hands, ISW noted.

The Russian military is also continuing unsuccessful attempts to disrupt Ukrainian lines of communication northeast of Bakhmut.

Russia has a numerical advantage in the battle for Severodonetsk, but Ukraine still has a chance to win, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 6.

As of the morning of June 6, the situation for Ukraine’s defenders is worsening, said Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Hayday. Ukrainian forces primarily control the city’s industrial zone, but the area is contested. Roman Vlasenko, head of Severodonetsk district administration, said that the Russians were being forced to use reinforcements in the on-going battle.
