The situation in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, continues to escalate as invading Russian forces press on with their attempts to seize the town, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said in a Telegram post on March 10.

“To briefly summarize the information released: the situation in Bakhmut has escalated, the enemy continues its offensive and is trying to break through the defense lines of our troops,” Malyar wrote.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces are doing their best to prevent the enemy from implementing its plans, according to the official.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Gen. Valery Zaluzhnyi and the Commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces, Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi at a meeting of Ukrainian High Command on March 6 spoke in favor of continuing the defense operation in Bakhmut and further strengthening Ukrainian positions there.

Ukraine’s Operational Command East spokesman Serhiy Cherevatyi said that as Ukrainian troops defend Bakhmut, they are depleting Russian personnel and equipment reserves, ensuring the success of Kyiv’s future counteroffensives.
