A Ukrainian police team has discovered the bodies of six men, bearing signs of torture, during cleaning operations in the village of Shevchenkove, in Kyiv Oblast, the regional police's press service reported on April 14.

Inspection of the village’s houses revealed that one had its basement turned into an execution site,  and the recovered bodies, of men between the ages of 40 to 50, were all killed with a gunshot to the head.

Andriy Niebytov, chief of the Kyiv regional police office, said none of the dead had nothing to do with the territorial defense or other military units.

"The village of Shevchenkove had been under occupation for a long time, and it was during this period that Russian troops abducted civilians, violated citizens, and then shot them," he said.

He warned that new bodies were being discovered every day, and more evidence of Russian war crimes against the Ukrainian people would be found, and insisted law enforcement is taking all the necessary steps to properly document and record these killings for use in international criminal trials.
