Slovakia has handed over all 13 Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, as promised, Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad’ wrote on Facebook on April 16.
Slovakia became the first NATO country to deliver warplanes when it sent its first four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine on March 23.
“This transfer was carried out by land route under maximum security. Once again, a huge thanks to all the forces involved since it’s a really important and complex logistical operation,” he said.
Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Olena Kondratiuk said on March 29 that the aircraft were already protecting the skies over the city of Kharkiv.
The MiG-29 fighters will be a major help but are unlikely to be a game-changer at the front, said Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat.
Ukraine needs modern multipurpose aircraft to gain air superiority and strike ground targets, he added.
