Soldier found dead in Mariupol with gunshot wound to head, army launches investigation
The body of a Ukrainian soldier was found in the town of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian military prosecutors reported on Jan. 3.
The 20-year-old soldier had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, prosecutors said.
The deceased, originally from Zaporizhzhya Oblast in southeastern Ukraine, served as a driver-mechanic for a military medical unit in the Donbas.
The matter is currently under investigation, and no concrete conclusions have yet been drawn. Prosecutors speculates that the cause of death may range from suicide to murder or the accidental discharge of a weapon.
The Mariupol Military Prosecutor’s Office has put out a request for information from anyone who may know more about the tragedy.
