Left-behind Russian units could be preparing to engage in sabotage across 3,000 square kilometers of recently-liberated territory in southern Ukraine, Operational Command South spokesperson Nataliya Humeniuk told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Nov. 11.

“We know some (Russian) units were left behind,” Humeniuk said.

“They are probably trying to engage in acts of sabotage. We’re working on this, that’s why we’re not rushing to announce every liberated settlement.”

She added that Ukraine has liberated great swathes of land in a matter of days.

“Just very recently, we were briefing about 260 square kilometers of liberated territory in the south; by today, we’re talking over 3,000 square kilometers,” the official said.

By Nov. 11, Ukraine was in almost complete control of Kherson, while Russia’s Defense Ministry reported its troops in the region have been withdrawn to the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.

Meanwhile, local residents posted photos of stranded Russian soldiers who change into civilian clothes in an attempt to blend in with the crowds and avoid getting captured by Ukrainian forces.
