The music streaming service SoundCloud has been blocked in Russia by order of the Russian state prosecutor's office, the Russian edition of media outlet Mediazona reported on Oct. 1.
Access to the service was restricted under Article 15.3 of the federal law of Russia, which regulates the restriction of access to sites calling for riots and extremist activities or disseminating false information.
The service itself has not yet commented on the decision of the Russian prosecutor's office.
The publication notes that the authors of podcasts critical of Russia have posted their work on SoundCloud.
Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office demanded that the platforms remove the Mediazona’s podcast, “F*ck War”, as well as the podcasts by the Russian service of the BBC, Kholod and other publications on the subject of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Russia maintains tight controls over reporting of the war within the country, attempting to hide the scale and purpose of the hostilities from the Russian public.
