State officials in Zaporizhzhya Oblast have said yesterday's explosions in the port of occupied Berdyansk may have been due to Russian invasion forces mishandling ammunition.

“We don’t know for certain what happened, but it is likely that the occupiers do not comply with security measures when it comes to unloading explosives,” the official account of Zaporizhzhya Oblast wrote in a post on Telegram.

Berdyansk city council reported that more than 10 explosions were heard in different areas of the Russian-occupied port city Berdyansk during the day on June 2.

Residents of the city were urged to be careful, as there is no centralized alert system in Berdyansk.

The city council also noted that there are still no communications in Berdyansk. This situation occurred as the occupation forces moved massive numbers of troops throughout the city and the port.

In March, the Ukrainian military attacked Berdyansk port, which had been captured by Russian forces, destroying a large landing ship and a warehouse of the invaders’ fuel and ammunition.
